Standards Committee

IFAC strives for globally-harmonized standards and specifications for food ingredients and food additives. Following are the primary activities of the IFAC Standards Committee:

  • Active participation in Codex Alimentarius, primarily the Codex Committee on Food Additives, including providing technological justification for the use of food additives in priority food categories and engaging with key government and industry delegations.
  • Close engagement with the U.S. Pharmacopeia (an IFAC Associate Member) to ensure the scientific basis of Food Chemicals Codex monographs.
  • Development and promotion of IFAC best practices on key topics, including Good Manufacturing Practices, the GRAS process, New Dietary Ingredient Notifications, and management of allergens.
